Awards Program

The New York State Council awards program honors outstanding individuals, student chapters, projects, and Historic Civil engineering landmarks that promote the advancement of the science and profession of Civil Engineering in a manner consistent with the American Society of Civil Engineers.  The awards are given out annually to active ASCE members, projects, or sites located in the geographic area covered by the six (6) New York State Council Sections.  Nominations, application forms, and required documentation must be submitted to the Awards Committee by March 1st for the previous year ending December 31st. RUSSELL D. PORTER SERVICE TO ASCE

Russell D. Porter, P.E., M.ASCE, LEED AP was a member of the Rochester Section and a Region 1 Governor. He was a licensed Professional Engineer in New York, Pennsylvania, and New Jersey, a LEED accredited professional, and a member of the Institute of Traffic Engineers. Russ served on the Awards Committee at ITE and was a member of the Rochester Section Board of Directors and the Career Guidance Committee. He also served as a Past Chair, Secretary, and Delegate to the New York State Council and a Delegate and Secretary to the Region 1 Assembly and Board of Governors. This award was named in his honor by a unanimous vote of the ASCE New York State Council on September 13, 2014.

STUDENT CHAPTER AWARD in Memory of Otto W. Maatsch

The New York State Council recognizes demonstrated dedication to ongoing and regular Civil Engineering activities consistent with ASCE principles by an ASCE Student Chapter with the presentation of the “Student Chapter Award in Memory of Otto W. Maatsch” to a Student Chapter within the New York State Council.

OUTSTANDING YOUNGER CIVIL ENGINEER

Young Civil Engineers within New York State are recognized annually by selection of an “Outstanding Younger Civil Engineer”.  This annual award is to acknowledge the engineering efforts of younger Civil Engineers who further the advancement of the practice and profession of civil engineering.

OUTSTANDING CIVIL ENGINEER IN GOVERNMENT

Civil Engineers in government service within New York State are recognized annually by selection of an “Outstanding Civil Engineer in Government.” This annual award is to acknowledge the engineering efforts of government service Civil Engineers who further the advancement of the practice and profession of civil engineering.

OUTSTANDING CIVIL ENGINEER IN PRIVATE PRACTICE

Civil Engineers in private practice within New York State are recognized annually by selection of an “Outstanding Civil Engineer in Private Practice”. This annual award is to acknowledge the engineering efforts of private sector Civil Engineers who further the advancement of the practice and profession of civil engineering.

OUTSTANDING CIVIL ENGINEERING PROJECT

The New York State Council annually recognizes an exemplary civil engineering project as the “Outstanding Civil Engineering Project”.  The award is made annually for an engineering project that best illustrates superior civil engineering skills and represents a significant contribution to civil engineering progress and society. Honoring an overall project rather than an individual, the award recognizes the contributions of many engineers.

NEW YORK STATE HISTORIC CIVIL ENGINEERING LANDMARK

ASCE sponsors a Historic Civil Engineering Landmark program as a means of bringing deserved public recognition to historic civil engineering projects, structures, and sites.
