ASCE New York State Council
The ASCE New York State Council was founded in 1963 and consists of the Buffalo, Ithaca, Metropolitan, Mohawk-Hudson, Rochester, and Syracuse Sections.
The Council’s purpose is to be the unified voice of the approximately 7,400 ASCE members and other Civil Engineers in New York State and to bring together the constituent ASCE Sections in New York to work collectively on common concerns related to professionalism, legislation, infrastructure, awards, and other timely issues.
The Council aims to affect closer contact between New York Sections; collectively support each of the NYS Sections; to be active and diligent in addressing government relations, public relations, and recognizing accomplishments.
The Council maintains an awards program to recognize the accomplishments of outstanding Civil Engineers, Civil Engineering projects, Historic Landmarks, and Student Chapters. The awards are Russell D. Porter Service to ASCE, Historic Landmark, Outstanding Civil Engineer in Government, Outstanding Civil Engineer in Private Practice, Outstanding Civil Engineering Project, Outstanding Younger Civil Engineer, and Student Chapter Award in Memory of Otto W. Maatsch.
The NYS Council leadership is elected to a two-year term by the delegates to the Council and meets regularly. It generally meets in person twice a year in conjunction with the Region 1 Assembly and holds virtual meetings throughout the rest of the year.
